This was supposed to be a little blog post project.
It turned into much more.
Over 8 nights at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year I got behind the curtains, backstage into the world of the comedian before they hit the stage. It was a crazy few days, I was quite literally running all over the city, having very limited time to do the shoots before an audience arrived and also not wanting to throw them off their pre show routines.
What transpired was amazing, not only of what each performer did pre show but the spaces they prepared in. You won’t believe them, there are full on dressing rooms, converted toilets, a pizza oven, stairways, storerooms and even a few kitchens.
This is the precursor to the exhibition next year and will most likely serve as the catalogue. I do have plans for another book to be launched at the exhibition opening that is not related to this project… yes more things planned!
