What to do with your digital files

In the digital age, it’s easier than ever to take and store countless photos, but what happens after you’ve received the digital files from your portrait session? Or indeed all your special photos from holidays, special moments etc.

Here is an evolving guide that hopefully will provide you with some ways to make the most of your digital family photos, ensuring they are backed up, displayed, and shared in ways that keep those memories alive and not just stuck in a hard drive in the cupboard.

SKYLIGHT DIGITAL FRAME

I bought a Skylight frame for my parents last Christmas. Because we live in different states it’s the BEST. It connects to their wifi meaning that I can update photos of it from a different state, or even different country.

There is an app I can send new photos to, or  you can email them frame.

The quality is of the images look great on the screen and the frame itself  look fantastic.

Plus, even my Mum who isn’t the most tech savvy can use it.

BACK THEM UP

If you have photos sitting on you computer or on a hard drive and that is the only place they are, then you are in trouble.

You need to have at least two copies of your images, ideally one on a hard drive and the other up in the cloud.

It only takes an accidental spill of your favourite beverage into a computer for your images to be lost.

Here is a handy blog post on how to organise and back up your photos.

PUT THEM ON THE TELLIE

Those random travel photos that pop up when the TV is on and no one is watching it could be your family!

I have people coming now to have sessions just to get the files to put up on their awesome Tv’s.

Most of the time I get TV envy.

GET THEM PRINTED

Yeah, this is probably what you might expect from me.

Get them printed, and properly!
Look for a lab that offers archival quality prints, these prints will last longer than a hard drive!

Maybe get them made into a photobook? Just get them in you hands physically.

Need a hand? I can help you with that. If you really have bought your files, I can print them at a discounted rate for you.
